Think you’re getting a great deal? Think again. The “advertised price” is just the start. At Route 101, we don’t believe in hidden fees, fine print, or charging you extra for basics that should be included. Here’s how we keep it real—and how they don’t.

The Price Is Not The Price At Checkout

If you’ve rented a motorcycle before, you already know — the advertised price is rarely what you end up paying. It’s not an accident. It's the model.

Upcharges concealed as highway use fees. Helmet charges. Insurance markups. Seasonal surcharges. Model guarantee fees. By the time you’re done clicking all the boxes, even after adding in that great discount they hooked you on, even after "joining the club", that “great rate” you expected is long gone.

In this article, we’re laying out how most rental platforms structure their pricing and add fees back on their rates that erase any discounts or special pricing offered — and exactly how Route 101 does it differently.

"$99 Bike Guarantee Fee" — Wait, What?

You saw the Harley you wanted. You picked it. You booked it. But unless you paid that extra $99, that bike you booked isn’t guaranteed. You’re spending hundreds to rent a specific motorcycle. You may have flown across the country or halfway around the world just to ride a motorcycle in California. But unless you threw another $100 on the pile, you could end up with whatever bike is left in the lot when you arrive — Let that sink in.

Charging another $99 just to honor the reservation you already made? Not in our DNA. You wouldn’t book a hotel suite and expect to be told at check-in, “Sorry, since you didn’t pay the $99 room guarantee fee, we are giving you a standard room.”

At Route 101, the bike you book is the bike you ride. Period. We don’t play games with your money or your expectations. If it’s on our site, it’s available — and when you reserve it, it’s yours and waiting for you.

Helmet Rental Fee — Really?

You're already spending $100's, even $1,000's, depending on the length of your booking, to rent a Harley. And now you’re being charged $10-$12 daily for the use of a helmet simply because you didn't have room to pack your own — And Wait... No jackets? No gloves? Instead of tossing riding gear in as a courtesy, or a safety standard, most rental companies upcharge you every day just to protect you — again, REALLY?

At Route 101, it’s simple: helmet, jacket, gloves — all free. Safety isn’t an upsell at Route 101, it's a safety courtesy we're happy to extend.

Enviornmental Impact Fee? Consession Recovery Fee? Sounds official.

But they’re not. These made-up daily charges carefully named to feel like some sort of mandatory state fees or taxes, are nothing more than creative profit padding. These aren’t state or federally regulated fees. They’re not explained. They sure as hell aren’t required. They're just stacked dollars tacked onto their daily rental price they're counting on you not to question.

At Route 101, we don’t bury profit in unexplained line items or disguise markup as government fees or taxes. The price you see is the price you pay — no hidden fees, no environmental guilt tax, and no fine print pricing surprises — Just pure transparency, and solid respect for your wallet.
